The reason that the Jews were kept in the wilderness for forty years was to rid them of their slave mentality. God wants us to worship Him from our free will, not as slaves.

God Controls The Connections
God is in control of the world. The problem is that we do not always see it. Sometimes we blind ourselves to the obvious signs, but they are there for all to see who wish to.

No Job Is Too Dirty To Do

In the Torah, it is the responsibility of the thief to make the victim whole. That they are connected by his act of theft. Until he does so, he cannot atone for his sin.

We Were All At Mt. Sinai
The entire Jewish nation was at Mt. Sinai and according to Jewish tradition the entire Torah was given there. This teaches us that we all have a personal connection with God. We do not need intermediaries.
